The History of the Couriers reaches further back than most are aware. The Couriers was one of many names used by student outreach ministry teams at Central Bible Institute, (C.B.I.) in Springfield, Missouri for many years. Most of the teams were musical groups; duets, trios, quartets, ensembles, etc. Though the outreach group names were never officially owned by the school; now an accredited college, each year students would assume one of these established names which had previously gained a quality reputation by other alumni. Because of this practice each recycled group name took on new life each year. The same group personnel usually didn't last more than a semester or at longest a full school term. With a constant flow of senior graduations and freshmen enrollments each group would either be reorganized or revitalized annually.

"The Couriers" originally formed in 1953, consisted of Dick Malone, lead; Roger Kling, baritone; Nick Schubert, pianist; Lem Boyles, tenor and Cliff King, bass. They were the most sought after bible school group during their year and a half tenure. The (original) Couriers stayed together until August of 1955.

In September of 1955
a new enrollee, Don Baldwin of Chicago, Illinois, was invited into the group by Lem Boyles who took over when Roger left group. In 1957 Don became manager and recruited three other students to join him and Lem to continue The Couriers. Don managed the group and sang baritone, Lem Boyles stayed as tenor, Eddie Mosher took the lead part, Nick Schubert again committed to played the piano and Dave Kyllonen sang bass. Several pianists stayed for brief periods: Dewey Jernigan, Jim Collins, Bob Casebeer and Larry Turner. Eddie Reece of Memphis, Tennessee became the pianist for The Couriers in 1956 and remained the group's musical mainstay. Also in 1956, Duane Nicholson of Woodward, Oklahoma accepted the lead position for the graduating Eddie Mosher. Duane possessed a magnificent voice and versatile vocal range, so when Lem Boyles received his diploma in 1957 Duane moved up to tenor. The same year Neil Enloe of Wood River, Illinois joined as lead singer upon his arrival at school. To date no college group had experienced a greater popularity among the churches.

Their singing schedule became so busy that they often spoke of making this group their life's calling and ministry. As the year progressed, and group momentum mounted, a tempting offer came from a youth leader in the northeast. At the end of the school year The Couriers moved to Pennsylvania and launched their full-time music ministry career in the fall of 1958.

In 1960 Eddie Reece, a master at the keyboard and skilled arranger, was the first to leave the original full-time Couriers as he felt the Lord leading him to form a traveling youth choir. For a while Neil added his early piano skills to the group until Jerry Evans of California became the pianist for The Couriers. Jerry was a premiere accompanist and stayed until 1962 when he accepted another offer.

L. David Young
of Georgia then joined The Couriers after his army release and gave the group a musical and performance excitement still talked about today. Little David stayed until 1965 when he and Don both decided to get off of the road and retire from traveling ministry. Today Don and his wife Cheri are retired in Longwood, Florida. Little David and wife, Colleen, live in Cleveland, Georgia where David leads his family group while operating his recording studio in Cleveland, Georgia.

Replacing Little David at the piano was Eddie Hawks of Princeton, West Virginia. Previously Eddie and his wife, Sharon, had their own successful group in West Virginia. Eddie was a gifted musician and a wonderful addition to The Couriers. Eddie resigned in 1967 and is Minister of Music at Victory Assembly in Lakeland, Florida. Once again Neil picked up the piano duties mastering his now famous unique style, continuing to sing lead and write songs that set The Couriers apart musically. Phil Enloe took Don's part as baritone in The Couriers. Phil is Neil's brother and stayed in The Couriers from 1965 through 1968 helping to launch The Couriers' television ministries and missionary tours that now number over eighty nations. Phil felt a call to youth evangelism as a preacher/singer and launched his Ministry Association and left the group. At Phil's resignation Dave Kyllonen moved up to baritone and The Couriers became a trio.

During this period The Couriers were presented three prestigious Dove Awards from the Gospel Music Association. Two of the awards, “Song of the Year” and “Associate Member Award”, were bestowed upon Neil for his original music composition, "STATUE OF LIBERTY”. The other award was given to honor their live concert recording, “OVATION”, for being voted by their peers as the Gospel Music “Inspirational Album of the Year”.

In 1980 everything changed as God seemed to be shaking their comfortable and perpetual “Ministry Nest” and the decision was made to launch out into the unknown and disband. Dave Kyllonen gathered his family together in a group known as “Homefire” and began a 17 year journey in a vital ministry providing a Christian perspective on family relationship issues as they traveled all across the United States and Canada. Today all three of Dave's daughters are married to ministers and involved in ministry. Dave and Judy have two handsome grandsons and six beautiful granddaughters. Duane Nicholson continued on as a soloist and traveled with his family in music ministry. He continued to promote Gospel concerts that the Couriers had long ago established and hosted a television program of Gospel music for many years in Pennsylvania. Duane and Jean Ann’s two daughters are involved in the ministry with their husbands and their two granddaughters are gorgeous. Neil Enloe continued to sing with his family and as a soloist, itinerating over many of the familiar paths he traveled in his tenure with the Couriers. He also continued writing and arranging songs for other artists. All three of Neil’s children are involved in music and ministry. Neil and Ruth boast of five spectacular grandchildren; four handsome grandsons and a beautiful blonde granddaughter. Neil's son Tim sang baritone in the Couriers for over five years. Today, Tim and his wife Rochelle travel the country in full time ministry.

A few years after going their separate ways in ministry Duane and Neil reorganized and resumed the name “Couriers” when Neil’s brother Phil Enloe joined the group as bass/baritone. After many more miles and years and prayerful consideration Duane, Neil and Phil decided the time had come to lay plans for permanent retirement from the Couriers. In April of 1998, three new members were brought into The Couriers; Larry More, Scot Womble (Phil’s son-in-law) and Kris Walker (Duane’s son-in-law) and for two and a half years, The Couriers traveled as six men. Then in 2000, all three members of old guard quietly stepped out of the Couriers for the last time and the next generation of The Couriers took over the reins of the ministry.

In June of 2002, Kris left the group to follow a calling to ministry with his wife, Shannon. Together, they have a dynamic music ministry. In July 2002 Larry and Scot met with Tim Beitzel of Duncannon, PA, who had been singing both in groups and as a soloist since 1983. Having a love for Courier music and the ministry that has been established, Tim is a great addition to the group.

In March of 2005, Scot Womble announced his intention to move on to other ministry. Larry and Tim began the arduous task of finding a qualified replacement and in June of 2005, Brett Scarem came into the group as lead singer. Originally from Findley Lake, NY, Brett was a fine addition to the ministry and The Couriers continued to travel the highways each week singing and preaching the Gospel. Tom Keel began traveling with The Couriers in December of 2005 playing piano, keyboards, bass guitar and on occassion, added his vocal talents to transform the group into a quartet.  Tom is also a fine preacher and has truly enhanced the overall ministry of The Couriers. Brett Scarem left the Couriers in January 2008 to spend more time with his family.

The Couriers of today; Larry More, Tim Beitzel, and Tom Keel, like those who came before them, see success as lives changed for the Glory of God. The Couriers have carried their musical ministry reputation to all fifty of the United States in every Bible believing church you can name; into every province of Canada and eighty nations around the world.  Many great and wonderful men have helped create and establish The Couriers and will forever be "Couriers". Now, after more than 50 years, the achievements of The Couriers are incredible. The ministry has traveled over four million miles and recorded 56 albums. They have ministered their musical message in over 80 foreign countries and all 50 of the United States. They have sung in every situation imaginable; from a private Royal Concert for a King to numerous prisons in the States and abroad. Their audiences have been of every color and size; from 25,000 people to only one in the confines of a hospital bed. Though the faces have changed The Couriers have withstood the greatest test of dedication; TIME. With Christian integrity these men have carried the gospel message through music and word since 1955.
